Sahara “Sista SOLS” Scott is a writer, playwright, and Southeast native living in South Carolina. In 2021, she was named Artist of the Year by UrbArts. Her debut chapbook, My Last Words... Not Really, was released in 2016, and her poetry has been featured in Enclave, WusGood, Poetry Potion, and F.A.C.E.S Magazine. Sahara’s nationally toured one-woman show, The Family Cookbook, debuted at the 2016 St. Louis Fringe Festival.
As a playwright and director, Sahara has created works such as The Gifts and Not About Love in collaboration with Room 13 Delmar for St. Louis Shakespeare Festival's Shake 38. She was the first Katherine Dunham Fellow at COCA and served on the Artists of Color Council for Great Rivers Greenway (2019-2020).
Sahara is currently a Library Resident at Clemson University. Her previous roles include Story Center Publication Manager at Mid-Continent Public Library, Teen Librarian at Lawrence Public Library, and Young Adult Services Supervisor at Saint Louis Public Library. She earned a Master’s in Information Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2022) and a BA in Communication: Theatre Studies and Art Therapy from Buena Vista University.
A dedicated teaching artist, Sahara partnered with UrbArts for years, offering workshops and serving as a visual artist. She collaborated with UrbArts to develop a book collection for artists and performers. Sahara has performed poetry nationwide and released her debut EP, Spontaneous Stanzas, in 2021, available on all streaming platforms.
In 2020, Sahara founded OUR SOuLS LLC, an empowerment production company promoting wellness, creativity, and community among artists. With a background in art therapy, Sahara uses the arts to bridge gaps between stories and people. Her mission is to empower women, support youth, and illuminate social injustices through storytelling and connection.
